No 5% pay raise for CBC staff

Members of staff at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) were informed on Thursday that they would not be getting the five per cent wage increase and back pay due to public servants next week.

Reliable sources told the NATION that acting general manager Andrew Greene and acting deputy general manager Kim Sealy-Lewis met with staff at 11 a.m. and informed them that only state-owned enterprises which receive a subvention will benefit from the five per cent increase and therefore CBC was not entitled.

“The argument is that they got that information from somebody in the Minister of Information’s office, but they have no documentation to support it. So we want to know how the Minister of Information can overrule what the Prime Minister said,” the source stated, adding that staff was livid when they received the news. (MB)
