The new Government has already played a master stroke in helping Barbados to successfully bid for an attractive package of matches during England’s tour of the Caribbean next year.

In reacting to news that Barbados will host the first of three Tests between the West Indies and England from January 23 to 27 as well as the first two One-Day Internationals (February 20 and 22) in the five-match series at the historic Kensington Oval, president of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA), Conde Riley, said Government’s support was critical.

“There was a process where all the governments in the Caribbean were asked to join with Cricket West Indies (CWI) to make a commitment to the tour,” Riley said.

“In early June, that letter came to the Government. I met with new Minister of Sport [John] King and he immediately got the permission of Cabinet to sign off and commit and I am very happy as after we lost out on the Women’s World Cup, I think this would make up for that.  (EZS)
