Nothing new!

Government’s announcement that it will retrain and retool workers who end up on the breadline as a result of its economic programme has not impressed newly-elected Democratic Labour Party (DLP) president Verla De Peiza.

In fact, she says it’s not anything new.

Last Thursday, the Mia Mottley administration revealed its economic plan to reduce the island’s debt, improve the foreign exchange position and recovery, while offering retraining and retooling for any workers laid off during its trimming programme.

De Peiza, a former DLP senator, said the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) claimed it was fixing what her party had already done. She was speaking on Voice Of Barbados’ Sunday Brass Tacks call-in programme moderated by Peter Wickham yesterday. (JS)
