Any restructuring exercise that impacts public employees has to be discussed with their trade union.
General secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Senator Toni Moore, said so on Thursday against the background of the public sector job cuts that Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced in Parliament last month.
While Mottley has not given any definitive number of those going home, Moore said the union should be consulted regarding redundancies.
“Our position has not been only as it relates to an increase, but all the other issues that have been under discussion that would likely impact state-owned enterprises (SOEs),” she said. (SB)
