Last Saturday, Cameron Bellamy attempted to become the first person to complete a swim around Barbados.
However, the South African native had to call it quits after swimming for just over 27 hours, when he was near the Animal Flower Cave at North Point, St Lucy.
Last night during a congratulatory function for him, put on by staff at Sugar Bay Hotel in Hastings, Christ Church, where he was a guest, Bellamy told the NATION that as he reached that point, he knew his body could not go on.
“I’ve never swam for that long before, and I didn’t know what was going to happen to my body. I felt like I could have swum for about six hours more, but I knew at six hours more my body wouldn’t be able to function anymore,” the 36-year-old said.
He added that he would definitely be back to complete the task in the very near future. (DB)
