Darian to carry the workload
A fresh team will play doubles for Ecuador, but Barbados’ No. 1 player Darian King will once again appear in all three segments of the Davis Cup tie beginning Friday at the National Tennis Centre.
“I always leave it up to the coach. I just go out there and practice and whatever the coach says, I’ll do. That’s why he is the coach. He is the engine of the team. For the upcoming tie we have against Ecuador, even if on the day I get injured or something maybe Kaipo [Marshall] or Xavie [Xavier Lawrence], Haydn [Lewis], Matthew [Foster-Estwick] who is playing on the day, will step up to the plate. I am obviously going to be there to support any decision.
“I am very ready. I prepared for it. I had some ups and downs this year and some tough ones, but playing for my country is obviously a big deal. Obviously, with this team it makes it easier for me to go out there and play my game and to be who I am on court. I am ready to go out there and battle,” said King.
