NUPW strike warning

A union boss is warning that protest action may be impending at the Barbados Vocational Training Board (BVTB) if several concerns of workers are not addressed expeditiously.

Deputy general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Wayne Walrond, made the point on Friday, as he expressed concern that although the responsibilities of demonstrators have increased tremendously their take-home has remained the same for three years.

Walrond noted that the NUPW had several meetings with the board and a meeting with the Ministry of the Civil Service in an effort to resolve the matter, but these have borne no fruit.

Now he is appealing “to the relevant authorities to have this issue resolved as a matter of urgency since it cannot be business as usual until demonstrators receive their upgrade of pay”, he cautioned. (SDB Media)
