THERE IS NO POINT in providing free education and health care if people are going to throw their lives away by living unhealthily.
Prime Minister Mia Mottley gave this admonition yesterday at the 2018 Walk For The Cure event, as she urged Barbadians to take chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs) seriously.
“With CNCDs, how we live is how we die. There is no sense in me as Prime Minister helping you to get [free] education and health care for it to come to naught. I want each of us to recognise that however hard we work to make things easier for you in this country, it is up to you to keep yourselves healthy,” she said.
After an energetic entrance, Mottley spoke about her own struggles giving up smoking, and called for further national discussions about health and taking control of one’s life.(CA)
