Led by a disciplined and mature performance from all-rounder Shamar Springer, Barbados Pride won their first match of the Windies Super 50 defeating United States of America (USA) by three wickets in a gripping contest Friday night at Kensington Oval.

Springer’s Man Of The Match contribution lifted Barbados Pride from the cellar position in Group B on two points to third position on six.

This puts them within reach of second-placed Combined Campuses and Colleges on ten points. The Jamaica Scorpions top the standings with 19 points, while Leeward Islands Hurricanes are tied on six points with the Pride but with an inferior net run-rate.

Set 197 for victory after restricting USA to 196 for nine in 50 overs, the Pride  reached 200 for seven with eight overs to spare. Springer was unbeaten on 29 off 22 balls when victory was achieved. He struck a six and three fours. This followed the fine bowling figures of three for 21 off ten overs. (PH)
