Barbados has enough petroleum supplies on island to last for the next two months – as per usual. Also, every effort is being made to keep the price of gasoline and diesel down to help reduce the cost of living.

These assurances have come from Alex McDonald, chairman of the Barbados National Oil Company Limited (BNOCL), in an update on what was being done to find new oil sources for Barbados and the refining needs for locally-produced crude, since last month’s closure of traditional partners Petrotrin (Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd).

McDonald said tenders were issued for the supply of petroleum products and a shipment was expected to be here by the start of February. This would last for a minimum of two months as accustomed when Petrotrin were the suppliers, given the local storage capacity.

“We don’t expect any supply issues in the near future,” he said, explaining that the committee charged with this responsibility would be seeking to secure the best quality products at the best price available. (SP)
