Love thy neighbour
As hundreds lose their jobs with Christmas around the corner a priest is telling Barbadians now more than ever is the time to look out for each other.
And a human resource expert is advising those who have lost their jobs to watch their spending as the yuletide temptations abound.
A cloud has been thrown over the celebrations “of the most wonderful time of the year” as layoffs hit the public and private sectors, a result of the Government’s austere Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme to combat difficult economic times.
Chairman of the Barbados Christian Council Canon Noel Burke said that hard times would mean that along with giving hope, the church and other Barbadians would have to give something more tangible and embody the biblical spirit of loving thy neighbour as instructed by Jesus Christ, for whom Christmas is celebrated.
