More SSA overtime
Staff at the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) will be able to earn overtime after all. At least for the next two weeks.
But in the new year a proper work week would have to be determined, says the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).
That decision was made yesterday following Minister of Labour Colin Jordan’s meeting with SSA and NUPW officials in an emergency meeting, after staffers were up in arms over a decision to stop paying workers overtime as part of Government’s Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme, and use private haulers instead.
It was revealed early on Friday the SSA wanted to bring back the private entities to clear refuse on weekends, and had asked workers to give up the big bucks that come with overtime, and instead work Monday through to Friday every week, and not on weekends. (BA)
