Water solution for north ‘next year’
Minister Of Water Resources Wilfred Abrahams is promising that the water woes in the north of the island will be addressed very early in the new year.
In fact, he vowed to give them similar priority to the South Coast Sewerage Project crisis from earlier this year.
“We had a crisis we had to deal with that required a hundred per cent effort and commitment on the part of everybody involved . . . . That was the South Coast Sewerage issue. That has stabilised to some extent, so my next complete commitment is to resolve the issues facing the water-plagued northern parishes once and for all . . . And I have had some very serious conversation with the Member of Parliament for St Joseph, Dale Marshall, and the MP for St Thomas, Cynthia Forde.
“It is not good enough. We had an issue with the community tanks and Innotech and we managed to solve that. The [existing] system is too fragile and we can see that because it is going down every time there is a power outage . . . . I have commissioned a full report on that system and from January we are going out to try to resolve it,” he told THE NATION on Wednesday. (ROG)
