Drivers told to vacate Port property
Security from the Port Authority has told the public service vehicle operators to vacate the property.
A group of minibus and route taxi operators was meeting at Brandons, St Michael, to discuss the problems affecting them in the transportation sector.
The operators have started to vacate the facility and are heading to the nearby Brandon’s Beach.
Scores of passengers have been left stranded because some drivers refuse to work.
They had threatened to strike in protest against new regulations set to take effect this year, but if was felt an hours-long meeting with the Minister of Transport, Works and Maintenance, Dr William Duguid, and the Transport Authority on Monday had averted that action.
It appears not to be so.
Earlier this morning the Association of Public Transport Operators issued a statement calling for a level playing field.
