Barbados venue for draughts title match
Barbados has been chosen as the venue for the
World Three-Move Restriction title match between former world champion, Barbadian Ronald “Suki King and current world champion, Italy’s Sergio Scarpetta.
The decision was announced by president of the World Checkers & Draughts Federation Dr Richard Beckwith last Wednesday.
King earned the right to challenge Scarpetta when he emerged victorious at the World Three-Move Restriction Qualifier in October last year. He previously held the title from 1994 to 2001 when he unified it with the World Go As You Please title which he held from 1991 to 2014.
King was the first player in the history of the game to hold both world titles simultaneously.
The title match will form part of a major draughts festival to be held in Barbados in October when players from around the world will be attendance. (PR)
