MARCELLE MARSHALL, Victor Gibson and Debbie Brathwaite have served the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College for multiple decades. She joined the library’s staff 29 years ago as Library Assistant 3, but prior to officially becoming employed on February 13, 1990, Brathwaite gained hands-on experience volunteering at the library’s circulation desk where her sister Wavney Brathwaite worked as a library assistant at the time.
Brathwaite dispelled the notion that being a librarian is centred around a love for reading. She explained that instead, her love was for information and she described the management of information in a library as a science. She spoke passionately about her role saying, “Technology makes the process a whole lot easier. I came when we were using typewriters with ribbons and before we had to use cue cards to index journals, now we use the Ebscohost database.”
