A 31-YEAR-OLD MAN has denied assaulting his former lover, but admitted harming her.

Damien Rommel Thorpe, of Mayers Land, Goodland, St Michael, denied assaulting Rhonda Thorpe-Young last December 21, but pleaded guilty to assaulting her, occasioning her actual bodily harm, on February 10.

Prosecutor Constable Kenmore Phillips told the District “A” Magistrates’ Court the two were involved in a relationship that ended last November.

Thorpe-Young went to Westbury Cemetery earlier this month to put flowers on her mother’s grave, when she saw her former lover who started making accusations towards her. Thorpe cuffed her three times on the left side of the face and ran from the area after a man parted them. He eventually turned himself in at a police station.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant granted him $2 000 bail, and warned him to stay away from her.

He returns to court today when Thorpe-Young is also expected to appear.
