Some of Barbados’ social partners are currently engaged in the National Consultation on the Social Response to Crime in Barbados at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

The meeting is to find realistic strategies to significantly reduce crime on the island.

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Cynthia Forde said a holistic approach was needed to tackle the social ills, and special attention needed to be given to the family setting and how challenges in the home are linked to criminal activity.

She added that other social factors needed to be assessed to find the pertinent linkages between young people and violence. (SB)
