Fed up nurses off the job

Enough is enough! That was the cry yesterday from nurses at the Sir Winston Scott Polyclinic after they reported a patient running through the clinic with a chair after another, and a separate incident where another was brandishing a knife.

The nurses who work at the Ladymeade Gardens, Jemmotts Lane, St Michael polyclinic temporarily walked off the job yesterday morning, fearing for their lives.

Sources told THE NATION the nurses felt unsafe at work and would not be returning until something concrete was decided upon.

“The incident this week [involving the chair] was the second example of violence in a short space of time,” a senior registered nurse said.

“It was too much for the nurses to bear. There are other issues at the polyclinic, but safety is the main issue. What happened this time was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” she said on condition of anonymity. (DB)
