Body blows

A tug-o-war between the wife and mother of a murdered man has led to his burial being delayed and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) caught in the middle.

Shane Brathwaite, who was gunned down on February 27, outside his vehicle at St Martin’s, St Philip, was to be buried on March 13, but his funeral never took place. When it will happen is anybody’s guess.

Attorneys for the QEH cannot determine if to hand over the body to Kelston Rollins, who was authorised by Shane’s wife of 11 years, Renee, who lives in the United States to act on her behalf; or his mother, Joyce Brathwaite, who also lives in the US.

When contacted, the hospital reported that the matter had been referred to the Coroner for direction. (MB)
