Sir David Seale’s Night Prowler erased the track and class record of 1:33.0 on Saturday and exacted revenge on Gold Cup winner Celestial Storm in a breathtaking spectacle at the Garrison Savannah.

The speedy Gandalf, heavily favoured to land the Midnight Thomas Handicap over 1 570 metres, had no idea of the lurking threat until Night Prowler rushed by heading for home.

Gandalf went to the front, leaving the gates with Night Prowler and apprentice Delano Lopez just off pursuer Campaigner’s Gold.

At the three-furlong mark Night Prowler pounced. He and speedy Gandalf rubbed shoulders in their quest for success. Gandalf looked vulnerable at the quarter pole with his rider hard at work against the raging presence of Night Prowler. (LY)
