At 51 years old, Patricia Cox is living her best healthy life. Looking at her, one couldn’t guess her age given her youthful appearance and slender body. But this “look” is something Patricia has worked towards since she was in her teenage years.

“From school days I was always involved in some sort of fitness and dancing. I used to play netball, volleyball and run when I was at Roebuck Secondary. I was so into it that every other evening I would go walking with my cousin. That was our regime. And we lived in the country so we used to walk and run far,” she said.

Upon leaving school though, Patricia said she was determined not to “get fat”, as some women do when transitioning into adult life.

“When I finished school I was determined not to get fat. After I had my first son, I decided that it definitely wasn’t going to happen to me. So I started back exercising and I joined a gym and became a personal trainer there back then,” she explained.

But it wasn’t just a look she was after. Patricia told EASY she wanted to look and feel good about herself, even when she reaches “old age”.

“It’s important to me to keep myself ready for whatever life has ahead for me. I remember seeing old ladies walking the road and lifting bags and not able and have to depend on people to help them or just standing up and not able. I remember saying to myself, ‘I do not want to be like that’.” (DB)
