Investigators are trying to determine whether the decomposed body at Long Beach, Christ Church is male or female.
A passer-by spotted the body hanging from a tree in a bushy area just off the beach this afternoon and summoned the police.
The body, which was initially thought to be that of a man, was hanging by a black rope.
Officers said due to the state of the decomposition they could not say whether it was a man or woman.Â
