OVER 500 athletes from more than 20 Caribbean territories have assembled in Grand Cayman for the 48th edition of the annual CARIFTA Games starting tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

The Local Organising Committee has been working around the clock to have all systems ready for the start on the newly laid track at the upgraded facility. This will be the third occasion the Caribbean’s most prestigious junior track and field competition for the best Under-17 and Under-20 athletes is being held here.

The Cayman Islands have been a fairly good hunting ground for Barbadian athletes during the two occasions the Games were here in 1995 and 2010.Twenty-four years ago, on the first occasion in George Town, Barbados captured 20 medals, comprising four gold, six silver and ten bronze. (EZS)
