Bobby’s warning

Strong hints are being made that Errol Barrow Day should be no more, warned former CARICOM ambassador Robert “Bobby” Morris yesterday.

But he suggested the Barbados Employers Confederation (BEC) and the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) should spend more time driving economic growth rather than wanting to change national holidays.

Morris was delivering the Astor B. Watts Lunchtime Lecture at the Democratic Labour Party’s George Street, St Michael headquarters.

“A kite is being flown with the intention of removing Errol Barrow Day from the list of national holidays. I do not believe that the Honourable Mia Amor Mottley and her team will even think about removing Errol Barrow Day. So why is a kite being flown about May Day?

Why are particular persons saying all the time they can do what they like, but don’t touch May Day? I don’t think anybody in Barbados would even begin to think about getting rid of May Day,”he said.
