Barbados’ Under-17 national football team suffered their worst defeat this afternoon, going down 6-1 to hosts United States in the CONCACAF Under-17 Championships at the IMG Academy, Miami, Florida.Â
Looking to build on a 1-1 draw against Guatemala in their opening fixture on Thursday, the Young Tridents were outclassed.
Captain Kobe Hernandez-Foster scored the first goal for the United States in the 20th minute before Gianluca Busio produced a double and Adam Saldana netted from outside the 18-yard box to give the USA a 4-0 lead at half-time.Â
Ethan Bryan scored an own goal in the 52nd minute, while Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez slotted past goalkeeper Brandon Sumpter to make the score 6-0.Â
Substitute Devonte Richards grabbed a consolation goal from the penalty spot for Barbados in the 54th minute.Â
The Tridents will now turn their attention towards the final group game against Canada on Monday. (AG-B)
