Family, friends, hold vigil for murdered man
THE SECOND VICTIM of last Tuesday’s stabbing incident is still fighting for his life in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
This was revealed last night by Dr Rommel Springer, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, during a candlelight vigil in Orange Hill, St James, following the death of Cleophas Maynard in his community.
The 60-year-old Maynard, a father of three, was killed in a domestic dispute at his home. His was the 24th murder for the year.
The second man, who has not been named, was also stabbed in another area of the community. The group was to stop in front of his home to offer prayer for his family.
Springer, a friend of the deceased, said he was in disbelief at the tragedy.
“Under the circumstances, we would focus on the negative incident, but let us focus on the things he was good for. Think about the good times you shared with him and keep the positive memories that brought you here tonight,” he told the large gathering.
In a release yesterday, police said they had a suspect in custody. (NS)
