WI: We got this

There is an air of unpredictability for the start of the West Indies’ first Cricket World Cup match against Pakistan on Friday.

These two teams are both terribly inconsistent, hence current form is hardly a yardstick to measure who will start as favourites for the second match of this intriguing tournament.

Then there is the tricky Trent Bridge weather, where the rain played a cat and mouse game all day yesterday as the West Indies completed their final practice session and then the ground was bathed in sunshine when the players left after a steady three-and-half-hour workout.

You just can’t conclusively say what to expect when the first ball bowls off at 5:30 a.m. (Barbados time), but if you ask the head coach Floyd Reifer who has been struck with the flu bug or Jason Holder who is still smarting from his dining with Queen Elizabeth II and her grandson, Prince Harry, they are singing “don’t worry about a thing”.

“We are sure everything will be all right. I know there are some concerns about our bowling, but people have got to be mindful that the pitches in this tournament have generally been prepared to favour bowlers,” said Reifer in between coughing.
