PARENTS ARE BEING cautioned to monitor their children’s social media activities.

Police are alerting parents to the fact that some young girls might have fallen prey to men they have met on the Internet.

Public relations officer for the Royal Barbados Police Force, Inspector Rodney Inniss, has, therefore, urged young girls who might have been lured onto the social media platform by these men to come forward and make a formal complaint.

While Inniss said they did not get many complaints of hook-ups on social media, particularly with minors and older men that have gone awry, he suggested that a lot of this activity was indeed occurring in Barbados.

“When things like that happen, it is really by consent of the individuals concerned. We don’t get parents complaining about it because most of the time they don’t know, or when they find out it is something long gone. However, I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but we don’t have major complaints about it. There have been one or two in the past,” he said.
