Challenges cost Suki crown
Ronald “Suki” King says he experienced a number of challenges which led to his late arrival for the recent Scottish Draughts Open.
King, who was a world champion for 23 years, said he overslept, encountered difficulties in bathing and even had to run to the playing venue.
“I got there at least about 15 minutes late because I didn’t get to the hotel until about 3 o’clock in the morning because there was no place to stay. I got up a bit late. There was an additional problem because I couldn’t get the shower turned on to bathe because they are different,” King told the Saturday Sun.
“When I got there, I was an odd person, so I would have had to get a bye. I was witness to the two games being played in that session. After a few rounds they saw I was winning every game against everybody and they called me into a meeting and stopped me from winning those two games that I should have won because they disturbed me and allowed the person to draw the two games.” (RG)
