Price Alert

Share post:

Barbados’ high food prices are expected to rise even more in the coming months but this will have nothing to do with increased taxes.

Officials here have confirmed that the severe shortage in the United States of two critical ingredients for livestock feed and food extracts – corn and soybeans – will likely lead to a price hike in several imported products and local feeds. Because of the latter, Barbadians will likely be paying more for chicken, beef, pork and lamb before year-end.

James Paul, chief executive officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society; his counterpart at Roberts Manufacturing Co. Ltd, Jason Sambrano; and scientist Dr Leroy McClean have expressed concern at the likely scenario facing Barbadians. (SP)
