Remand inmates get day
A WEEK AFTER Justice Randall Worrell suspended High Court trials in an attempt to deal with the list of remand prisoners who wanted to plead guilty, the first set, 17 men, were brought down from HMP Dodds yesterday.
Interestingly, one man declared he had no intention of pleading guilty and was given a date for trial.
The status hearing in the No. 2 Supreme Court was the brainchild of the High Court judge after he had dealt with two men, one on remand for ten years, who told his court they had been waiting to plead guilty for a number of years.
At the time, Justice Worrell said he would be setting aside a week to deal with such men and matters and would not be hearing any more trials. (HLE)
