Chair of BWA stays

Workers at the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) want to see the back of chairman Leodean Worrell, but they are not getting the support of their union on this.

General Secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Senator Toni Moore, made this clear after meeting with staff at the BWA’s head offices in The Pine, St Michael, on Monday morning.

Exiting the meeting at which she briefed staff on the developments coming out of a near ten-hour meeting with Minister of Water Resources Wilfred Abrahams on Sunday, Moore said the BWU had agreed to “reset” the fractured relations between the board and workers at the state-owned entity. This, she noted, was because the union received the commitment of Abrahams that going forward, the policies and procedures in place for lines of authority would be observed.

This came on the heels of what Moore described as months of being “bombarded” by “complaints of harassment, threats and discomfort” from staff as a result of what she termed was a certain level of intrusion from the board. She revealed that since January the union had made representation on a number of these issues, but “you would get some issues corrected and then the other complaints”. (SDB Media)
