Bajans miss out on medals on second day at NACAC

Barbados did not add to their medal haul in the morning session on the second day of the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-18 and Under-23 Athletics Championships in Mexico, today.

CARIFTA Games’ silver medallist Vivica Addison (41.47) and Rowland Kirton-Browne (41.00) had to settle for fourth and fifth positions in the Under-18 Girls’ javelin event, which was won by Mexico’s Xochitl Montoya with a throw of 48.53 metres.

Bahamian Rhema Otabor (47.68) and Mexican Paulina Cazares (45.26) earned silver and bronze in the event.

CARIFTA silver medallist Savion Hoyte had a rough baptism to competition at the NACAC level as he finished last in the Under-18 Boys’ 800 metres.

Hoyte was ninth in a disappointing 2:02.34 minutes. The race was won by Canada’s Abdullahi Hassan in 1:52.48 minutes from Jamaica’s Chevonne Hall (1:53.32) with St Vincent’s Handal Roban (1:53.39) third.

Sprint hurdlers, Adeyah Brewster (13.75) and Sarah Brewster (13.94) advanced to the Under-18 Girls’ 100-metre hurdles finals as the third and fifth fastest qualifiers respectively.

Jamaicans Crystal Morrison (13.45) and Ackera Nugent (13.54) were the fastest qualifiers ahead of last night’s final.

Ayana Morgan (13.71) was the fifth fastest qualifier in the Under-23 Women’s 100m hurdles while Michael Nicholls was third fastest qualifier in the Under-23 Men’s 110m hurdles with 13.77 seconds. (EZS)
