Mottley: Housing estates below par

Prime Minister Mia Mottley has called the state of Government’s housing estates “an unacceptable situation”.

Mottley was out of the island attending the CARICOM Heads of Government Conference in St Lucia last Thursday when 18-year-old Kyriq Boyce tragically died after falling into a 100-foot well at Martin Road, The Pine, St Michael, one of Government’s most populated housing estates.

Boyce was walking across the well when the top collapsed.

Speaking to the media on Monday during a tour of the Botanical Gardens in Waterford, St Michael, the Prime Minister disclosed that she had visited the boy’s grieving family.

“I visited the family as soon as I returned to the country and rest assured, the Government is going to do what it has to do by the family and by the residents of all of the housing areas, that continue to have difficulties that are outstanding for way too long.” (MB)
