Teaching children about God’s glory

For the past 11 years she has been a child advocate, providing assistance to children and families in The Pine and Wildey, St Michael areas.

In addition to looking after their spiritual needs, she provides them with school supplies, uniforms and financial assistance, and she even counsels children and their parents.

In fact, together with her adult daughter, Shani Cutting, sister Denise Tannis, and a few others, Reverend Anne “Sonia” Hamilton-Cutting, who has a background in human resources management and is a trained social worker, has taken many children under her wing, helping to shape them into responsible young men and women.

Her vision is to assist each boy and girl in growing to the point of honouring God and identifying, developing and unleashing their God-given potential toward being productive citizens.

It was on March 24, 2008, that Hamilton-Cutting started a ministry for adults at what is now the Parkinson Resource Centre, situated next to the Parkinson Secondary School, The Pine. However, her heart was turned towards children, and together with other family members, including her husband, the late Roger Cutting, who passed away almost three years ago, she went into the Pine/Wildey communities, where she once lived, and knocked on doors, as she invited children to attend a fun session, where school supplies were given away. She also urged parents to allow her to work with their children.

That’s how Living Hope Ministries – essentially a church and charity for children between the ages of five and 16 – was born.

“The parents really bought into the idea. But it seemed to a large extent that these children were the ones determining when and where they would go. The parents also trusted us to the extent that on occasions we’ve actually gone to schools to represent the children on issues relating to their schools,” Hamilton-Cutting disclosed. (CH)
