The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) has announced the final delegation to represent Barbados at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru from July 24 to August 11.
Secretary general of the BOA and Chairman of the Technical Commission, Erskine Simmons said that he was pleased with the due diligence of the National Federations in their effort to develop and put forward the best athletes. He also commended the athletes for meeting the qualifying mark which in some cases was set beyond what was required by the Games, to boost the athletes’ competitiveness.Â
Chelsea Tuach, making her first multi-sport games debut in the sport of surfing, has been selected to be the flag bearer due to her outstanding performances so far for the year.
Barbados will be represented by 31 athletes in 12 disciplines by the following athletes: aquatics – Alex Sobers, Luis Sebastian Weekes, Jack Kirby and Danielle Titus; athletics – Sonia Gaskin, Tia-Adana Belle, Sade Sealy, Sada Williams, Shane Brathwaite, Jonathon Jones, Mario Burke, Greggmar Swift, Tristan Evelyn and Ariel Jackman; badminton – Damien Howell, Dakeil Thorpe, Sabrina Scott, and Tamisha Williams;  cycling – Amber Joseph; equestrian – Roberta Foster; Golf – Emily Odwin; sailing – Amy Cox; surfing – Chelsea Tuach; shooting – Justin St. John, Michelle Elliott and Michael Maskell; taekwondo – Askia Alleyne; tennis – Darian King, Haydn Lewis and Seanon Williams, and triathlon – Matthew Wright. Â
Among the officials this year are two journalists, Kenmore Bynoe from the Nation Publishing Co. Limited and Anne Marie Burke from the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation.
In 2015 Barbados won three medals at the Pan Am Games in Toronto. Ramon Gittens won a silver medal in the 100 metres, while Shane Brathwaite and Akela Jones won bronze medals in the 110 metres hurdles and the high jump respectively. (PR)
