Jones breaks national 400 metres record again
Barbadian quarter-miler Jonathan Jones has broken the men’s national 400 metres record again.
The 20-year-old lowered the mark by clocking 44.63 seconds at the London Diamond League today.
It was a performance that earned him a second place finish behind Jamaican Akeem Bloomfield who won the event in a time of 44.40 seconds.
Another Jamaican, Nathon Allen took third place in 44.85 seconds to complete a Caribbean sweep of the podium.
It was the third time in less than two months that Jones set a new national record in the one-lap event.
The former Coleridge & Parry and Harrison College student broke Elvis Forde’s near 35-year record of 45.32 seconds with a 45.02 clocking at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, California on May 24 and lowered the mark with a time of 44.64 seconds at the NCAA Division 1 Finals in Austin, Texas on June 7.
