Modelling with a purpose

If there was ever a thing as “living your dream life”, Barbadian model Kari Miller believes that she’s well on her way to living hers.

Since leaving Barbados at 22 in pursuit of a modelling career, the now 27-year-old beauty has been making tremendous strides in her chosen career.

Recently, she was able to rub shoulders with some big names in the model industry when she competed in a swimsuit competition for Sports Illustrated (SI) magazine.

“I was in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Competition in Miami, Florida. I was chosen for the Top 60 from over 900 women to make it through to the next round of the contest. Unfortunately, I didn’t make the Top 17 to walk in the fashion show for swim week or a chance for the magazine this year. But I was given a crazy opportunity to interact with models like Winnie Harlow, Jasmine Sanders, SI Swimsuit cover model Camille Kostek and got to shoot with someone I’ve wanted to shoot with for a really long time, Yutsai. Honestly, it was my best day for Miami Swim week this year. The energy and vibes in the room was so pure and so beautiful; just to be around, interact with and learn from people you’ve only envisioned yourself with was amazing while being able to tell them about my beautiful island,” Kari recalled.

Even though she didn’t make it to the Top 17 of that competition, she is still making strides in other areas.

In a few weeks, Kari will leave Miami and head to South Africa, to start a whole new path.

“I am currently preparing for my move to Cape Town, South Africa, where I will be meeting my new agency Topco Models and spending a few months developing my model book and career. I do not have any specific projects I am working on right now. I am more trying to set up my life for what 2020 is bringing for me. I will be working on a few projects in the future to help specifically our people, children and our environment,” Kari said. (DB)
