Illegal signs

Those “No Refund” signs liberally posted inside stores are illegal as consumers are entitled to have their complaints for faulty products addressed.

The reminder came from investigations officer with the Office of Public Counsel Paul Leach, who was speaking as one of the guests on Brass Tacks Sunday on Starcom Network’s Voice of Barbados 92.9 FM yesterday.

“Those signs are illegal and the [Consumer Guarantees] Act deals specifically with those kinds of interactions. You cannot sell a person a product and that product is defective, and when the person returns to you say that they cannot get a refund,” he explained.

Leach was speaking to a scenario on if a person purchased a pair of school shoes that had come apart within a week of the child wearing it. (RA)
