Barbados Light & Power has dismissed as “fake news” what it said was a rumour circulating on social media that it was shutting down power islandwide at 6:30 p.m.

Speaking on television a short while ago, manager, communications and government relations, Jackie Marshall-Clarke, said BL&P would try to supply power “as long as possible” during the storm.

BL&P also advised residents to familiarise themselves with the location of the main switch in their homes in the event it had to be shut off as the winds increased or water got into the home.

The centre of Tropical Storm Dorian is expected to pass over or near Barbados later today. (BW)
