Boxill sacked as airport CEO

Article by BARRY ALLEYNE/PR

Make that two CEOs Government has parted ways with in the last fortnight.

The Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) yesterday confirmed that chief executive officer Neville Boxill was fired on Monday.

“Mr Boxill and GAIA Inc. parted ways yesterday (Monday),” deputy CEO Terry Layne told the Midweek Nation.

Layne said he was not in a position to offer any more information other than that he would act in the position of CEO until a replacement is named.

In a statement last night, GAIA chairman Vic Fernandes said: “GAIA has terminated the services of [Mr Boxill] . . . .The board has thanked Mr Boxill for his service to the company.”

He added the CEO post would be advertised to find a successor.

Boxill had acted as CEO for three months in 2017, before being appointed on April 1, 2018, taking over from David Barrow, son of late Prime Minister Errol Walton Barrow.

Efforts to reach Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Kerrie Symmonds yesterday for comment on Barrow’s removal proved unsuccessful.

Boxill’s termination follows Government also ending its contract with chief executive officer of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Dr Dexter James, at the end of last month. (BA/PR)
