Bahamas to get funds ‘shortly’
The funds Barbados has raised for The Bahamas will be handed over shortly.
Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, David Comissiong, has given this assurance after noting that they were much closer to reaching the $500 000 target.
On September 8, the Rise Again Bahamas mediathon raised $440 956.41, and of yesterday Comissiong said that amount had increased to $466 680.75.
“The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) makes the arrangement with the bank and the agency in The Bahamas [and] my initial instruction to CDEMA was that we are to make the transfer as soon as possible. So it is my hope that that transfer will be made either today or tomorrow,” he told the Nation.
The mediathon featured performances by numerous entertainers who sang to help raise funds for Abaco and Grand Bahama which were ravaged by Category 5 Hurricane Dorian on September 1.
Executive director of CDEMA, Ronald Jackson, said they hoped to send the money via a wire transfer as soon possible.
