Whether it rains on the parade of the Biggest Party In Town or not, hundreds of Twenty20 cricket fans are expected to converge on Kensington Oval today to usher in the start of the Barbados leg of this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Scores of spectators were seen yesterday afternoon making last-minute purchases of tickets for today’s eagerly anticipated 6 p.m. showdown between hosts Barbados Tridents and the unbeaten Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Tournament operations director Michael Hall said ticket sales had been “going great”, adding he expected a capacity crowd.

“By all accounts, ticket sales for tomorrow’s [today’s] game have been going extremely well. I’ve just come from the CPL office where the ticket office is located and there are long lines there. People are getting tickets for the game. Obviously, Barbados-Guyana has always been a keen rivalry and I don’t think it will be any different.”

Hall said Guyana’s unbeaten start to the tournament and the Tridents’ coming home for five matches after Friday night’s big win against the St Lucia Zouks “sets up the match-up very nicely”. (EZS)
