EXTREMELY HOT conditions in Doha, Qatar, will make predictions of athlete performances difficult at the World Athletics Championships, says Barbados manager/coach Alwyn Babb.

He was speaking to MIDWEEK SPORT yesterday in a telephone interview ahead of the meet which starts on Friday and runs through to October 6.

“The World Championships this time around are being held in some conditions that you have to really monitor – not only the field officials but the athletes each day. It really has to go round by round because of the adverse heat and you have to take the competition step by step,” said Babb.

Babb explained that in such conditions the onus was on the athletes to remain hydrated during the period to ensure they were not faced with major challenges.   (RG)
