Residents are again calling for a police outpost in Silver Hill, Christ Church, after another shooting in that community on Tuesday.

Police reported that 17-year-old Terell Thompson from Block 12C Green Hill Drive, who was a passenger on a route taxi, was shot in the area of Green Hill Drive, by an unknown man. He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance.

A group of men who were in the area when Thompson was shot, saw him after the incident.

“He get shoot up the road, and run down here and fall down,” one man said.

“We heard one shot – a loud explosion – and then he run down the road hopping, then he drop down,” he said, adding that he did not see the shooter.

Police from Oistins Station are conducting investigations, but some residents said a greater daily presence was needed as a deterrent.

“They said they were putting a police outpost up here, and none ain’t come yet,” a resident, who declined to give his name, told the media.

“If you have a strong presence of the law, some of the lawlessness would calm down, but then they have some [youth] that just don’t care either. Some feel because they are young they can spend 20 years in prison and I’m 15, I could come out at 35 and I good.”

Another man said a police outpost would only work with certain types of lawmen.

“You have to frighten them. Put a cruel police, not a soft police that they gine play with – a fella that gine come out and let them know what time it is,” the man said.

But another resident said he was unsure if a police post was the answer.

“Some areas got police posts, and people still get shoot. I don’t know if a police outpost will solve anything. Police pass through here every half-hour,” he said.

Residents also said there remained too many idle hands in the area.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information, is asked to contact Oistins Police Station at telephone numbers 418-2608/2612, police emergency 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS(8477) or the nearest police station. (BA/PR)
