Power move

Workers at the Barbados Light & Power Co. Ltd. (BL&P) shifted their positions and took protest action outside their headquarters yesterday in a row over a newly-instituted shift system.

More than 40 employees, made up primarily of line workers, walked off the job around 8 a.m. for just over four hours at the utility company on Bush Hill, Garrison, St Michael, in solidarity with a colleague they claimed had been wronged by management.

A source close to the dispute said the man at the centre of the controversy was informed of the change last Thursday and instructed to report to work on Sunday to start the new shift. He apparently did not think that was adequate notice and did not turn up, but instead reported like normal yesterday. (SDB Media)
