PORT OF SPAIN – Police say they have detained 22 women, “most of them non-nationals”, during a sting operation at a house in St Ann’s on the outskirts of the capital during the early hours of Monday.
In a statement, the police said that the women had no identification and “suspected to be engaged in lewd dancing, prostitution and child endangerment”, noting that “several” of those detained “are minors”.
The police said that 20 men had also been arrested and that they had also seized a firearm, ammunition, narcotics and a large quantity of cash.
Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith spearheaded the operation and the statement noted that officials from the Child Protection and Witness Support Units are conducting enquiries “to verify the ages of the young women found”.
The police said that a further statement would be issued “relative to this ongoing investigation”. (CMC)
