Straughn, Governor tell of debt, economy
It was a day of figures, finance and some fireworks over the state of Barbados’ economy and its high level of debt.
Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ryan Straughn outlined in the House of Assembly yesterday morning the details of the much-delayed US$547 million debt repayment arrangement with external creditors.
About an hour after his presentation had started, Central Bank Governor Cleviston Haynes revealed during his third quarter review, at the Tom Adams Financial Centre, The City, that while there were signs of progress in the economy, Barbadians were not yet out of the woods and urged them economic targets.
In Parliament, Straughn was leading off debate on the Debt Holder (Approval Of Debt Restructuring) (Validation) Bill, 2019. (BW)
