Team Barbados gave their country an early 53rd Independence birthday gift with a resounding 100 to 72 points thrashing of the Team United Kingdom yesterday at the Garrison Savannah.

The local boys, captained by Rasheed Hughes, held a five-point advantage going into the final race on the Barbados Lottery International Jockeys Challenge Raceday – a day dominated by trainer Robert Peirce’s quadruple.

Radial Flyer, under jockey N’Rico Prescod, joined the day’s celebrities when he nicely took the featured Mega 6 Trophy Handicap over 1 100 metres for the top class.

Island Cotton moved quickly to the lead ahead of Joshua and Brigadier Wood in the race for three-year-olds and older rated 140-120 and below. (LY)
